Master your niche now for breeding success
What I've learned from the world's greatest investor
I really want to see you succeed in your business with your horses.
So what can you do to define your niche?
What is your niche?
Your niche is what differentiates you from others.
This is something you will need to think about along every stage of your journey in horse breeding, and maybe refine it further from time to time.
What is it exactly you will be selling? Who are the people you expect to be buying?
Narrow this down to those specifics you wish become known for.
Examples are:
Show hacks between 14-15h for teenage riders
Polocrosse ponies for elite players
Campdraft horses with Warwick Gold Cup potential
Australian Stock Horses to sell at Dalby Sale
Versatile all-rounders for the whole family to enjoy
Husband horses over 15.2h.
A rare breed which will endear itself to newcomers to the horse industry. (Most existing breeders, don’t wish to change over to a new breed, thus losing their life’s work.)
You can think of many more, but specifically it must be what your market wants and aligns with what you want to breed.
Then describe it so that the right people can find you.
Include age / height / breed / colour / performance / price range in your description of what you are aiming to sell.
Then you will know how to breed for the type and pedigree with that end in mind and how to raise it, to maximise interest from buyers.
For example -
