If you’ve read any of my past horse books, you’ll know that I don’t write about things I haven’t lived. Whether it’s bloodlines, breeding, or training, my writing has always come from experience, hands-on, dust-in-the-boots kind of learning.

And while horses may be my first love, I’d hazard a guess that most of you, like me, also live with a few four-legged companions of a smaller size. In fact, I don’t know many horse people who don’t have a dog at their side. A good dog is a fixture on many properties, whether they’re moving stock, holding the back seat of the ute, or keeping watch at the front gate.
