“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”
– Aristotle
Thank you to Michael Thompson for this post.
Result?
Peace, contentment, less overwhelm, your batteries are recharged.
Daily habits?
Feeding out, checking emails etc, riding daily, checking horses in far paddocks. Schedule it for EVERY day. Double down on the things that work, and leave the rest alone.
Emergencies are then far more easily coped with.
Habits
Create more available TIME and SPACE to work on projects, such as writing, breaking-in, travelling to longer distance events etc.
Better problem-solving.
You’re much more likely to achieve success.
How do you develop habits?
Move every day, (no headphones) - walk the dog. Get grounded - lie on the grass, soak up the sun, go out and enjoy life!
Disconnect, ( from your phone or computer or music) move, listen - sleep on it - a relaxed mind is more creative, more connected with spirit [nature / horses - my inserts ~ Jeanette.]
Consistency is the key
None of this is new, but perhaps we need reminding occasionally. You can’t beat consistency. I am consistent in all I do - I understand the power of consistency. It is nearly impossible to not become good at something.
If you keep running into obstacles, most people try something else, run into other obstacles and then try something else again. They keep hitting the reset button.
GROUND HOG DAY!
Consistency builds resilience
You become good at many things in life, simply because you persisted at it. I can truthfully say from experience, learning, and applying the learning, with a mentor by your side, is the first step, but that persistence, beats all of these. Quietly motoring along, not trying for the fast action, but pushing through the barriers with determination, builds quiet resilience.
[There will inevitably be plateaus along the way, hence consistency is the theme of progress. It is not a sprint, it is a marathon.
I am am share investor - the essential is doing little, and sitting on your ass, waiting, and doing that over and over again, wait, wait, wait. Consistency is life’s lesson.
In horse breeding, you can’t get results NOW. You have to extend your time frames to 15 years, just doing things over and over again. Play longer games, and you will be blown away by the power of it. ~ Jeanette]
"When you choose the benefits of an action, you also choose the drawbacks.
If you want to be an author, you can't only choose the finished novel and book signings. You are also choosing months of lonely typing. If you want to be a bodybuilder, you can't only choose the fit body and attention. You have to want the lifestyle, not just the outcomes.
Otherwise, it doesn't make any sense being envious of someone’s success or lifestyle.
The results of success are usually public and highly visible, but the process behind success is often private and hidden from view. It's easy to want the public rewards, but also you have to want the hidden costs. ~ James Clear
The above is a quote from James Clear. You can find him here
The tall poppy syndrome
Success can lead to people getting upset by it - the tall poppy syndrome exists. I wrote about it previously in this post
Ignore it! Ignore criticism. You are moving forward and there is no point getting dragged back. The more successful you are, the more you tend to stand out from the crowd.

This is a great article by fellow writer Michael Thompson who writes “Shy by Design.”
If you feel like your light is not shining, or you are a profound introvert, I recommend his work. Check out his article by clicking on the link above.
Did you know?

PS completely unrelated, but you might like to check out my books.
If you haven’t been to my Substack Home Page, here you will see the Notes section, where you can view or comment on any of them which you find relevant. Being Notes, they are short sharp and sweet - not necessarily horse related either. Check it out, and while you’re there, why not explore my Home page?
Jeanette, love horses 🥰. Have rescued a few in my day and my great aunt actually trained horses for the Olympics decades ago.
Horse breeding is something I've seen up close and personal just once and that was enough for me.... my goodness! 🤠
You're so blessed to be able to work with these gorgeous, spiritual animals. They taught me so much.
I did not know about yellow Penguins that was very interesting. Have atomic habits by James Clear- good book.
Success or what people call success, because I think it's different for everyone, but the one thing in common is consistency and developing good habits. Also finding someone that can precept or mentor that has been successful at it, especially if someone's starting out and wanting to be successful in something they haven't done before 😉
